NATHAN SIMPSON (b. 1973, d. TBA) is an Australian artist living on the south coast of New South Wales.

Most of his drawings and paintings draw on mythology, folktales and fairytales and other literary subjects.

They are also inspired by the archaic simplicity of prehistoric, ancient and medieval iconography, naive painting and children's art, particularly in the use of stylisation, lack of pictorial perspective and an 'awkward' sense of balance and proportion.

These works are often based on a simple word phrase, the text of which is sometimes incorporated into the image.

He has exhibited in various group and solo exhibitions and was included in the 2004 Blake Prize travelling exhibition.  His most recent show was a joint exhibition with his mother, sculptor Maria Simpson at the Old Firestation Gallery, Kiama in July 2011.

Nathan is currently studying Ancient Greek, Latin and French at Sydney University.
